The objective of the Art Network Agency (ANA) programme is
to stimulate cultural exchange between Hungary and the
United Kingdom, focusing on the field of contemporary art.
Twenty years after the fall of the iron curtain, contemporary Hungarian art still occupies an isolated position and is largely under-represented in the international landscape. ANA was established as a creative response to this situation in 2009, with the intention of promoting exchange, supporting and assisting the representation of artists from Hungary, in the global network of London.
Taking a flexible nomadic position instead of occupying a fixed gallery space, ANA will appear in multiple locations and contexts through a wide range of collaborative projects and events with different London-based institutions and galleries. Beyond engineering and developing a fundamental network, these partnerships will be significant in stimulating direct dialogue and long-term collaborations that respond to specific artistic approaches.
ANA sees its main role as a specialized, professional mediator that primarily operates in different micro-contexts, while, from a larger perspective contributes significantly to the development of cultural relations between Hungary and the UK.
ANA opened a growing public archive comprised of up-to-date portfolios by contemporary Hungarian artists, and a collection of publications and recent exhibition catalogues. ANA also provides free consultancy for curators and researchers.
In order to complement its consultancy services, ANA is currently
working towards the establishment of a fund to provide financial support
for exhibitions and programs in London-based institutions and galleries
that present the work of Hungarian artists.
